Release of Cool Tau Huay (A.k.A 冷豆花) Cold Beancurd Recipe

What a cool day... the rain has been non stop since Sunday. So how have everyone been recently? Did you guys try to make cold beancurd while waiting for me to post?

I know it has been quite awhile since my last post that I've found out the method to make cold beancurd. Some people might have been cursing me all this while. Anyway, I'm gonna release the method and ingredient to make the beancurd.

This is quite similar to the one that you can find at Old Airport Road. You should know which store I am referring to. Anyway don't make you guess, yes, it is Lao Ban Dou Hua (老伴豆花).

Before I get started, there is 1 ingredient is specially formulated by me (I've put in months of effort to discover it). I am not saying that only my Jelly Powder works, you still have the option to use any kind of jelly powder.

So let's get started, so move your buttock to the nearest supermarket to buy this ingredient.

- Soya Powder (I recommend Polleney Brand)
(There are many soya powder brands in the supermarket. I've tried most of them, and all works perfect)

- Coffee creamer
(I use CoffeeMate Creamer which I think it works best)

- Fine sugar
(Can be any sugar, up to your preference)

- Jelly Powder
This is the special ingredient that I've mentioned. This jelly powder is the main ingredient and it is responsible to give you superb texture. I've invented and specially formulated my own Jelly Powder. You can choose to purchase from me, and consider it as donations for me :) or visit the nearest supermarket to purchase.

Prepration and Method

Ok, after we are done with the ingredient part and let's move on to the actual making process. The making of the cold beancurd is fairly easy and no mess. The process of making the cold beancurd is so simple that even a person that cannot cook Instant Maggie Mee have no problem.

The follow proportion is used to make 6 bowl depending on how much you pour into the each bowl. So let's get started to make the cold beancurd. I assume you have purchased everything above. So let's prepare the below.

- 1200ml of PLAIN WATER (Room temperature)
- 120g Soya Powder
- 60g Sugar (Add more if you prefer it to be sweeter)
- 40g Creamer (Add more if you prefer it to be more creamy)

For Jelly Powder, choose either 1:
- 28g Jelly Powder (If you buy those commercially available in supermarket) - I have not tested this powder.
- 16g Specially Formulated Jelly Powder (This has been tested and proven to work) - Click here for more information.

Prepration Method

1. Measure 1200ml of Plain Room Temperature water and pour them into a cooking pot.

2. Use roughly 400ml of plain water from the cooking pot to dissolve the soya powder. Stir until fully dissolve. If you have an electric mixer, you can use that. Make sure that you do not use HOT water as this will make the soya powder lumpy.

3. Turn on the flame to boil the remaining of the water in the cooking pot.

4. When the water boil, do this:
- Dissolve the sugar first, then dissolve creamer. Then pour in the mixed soya milk and stir evenly. Finally pour in the Jelly Powder.

5. Continue to stir until the solution boil again. Once it boil again, you have successfully prepared the solution. The rest of the steps will just require you to divide them equally into bowls.

6. Leave the bowl until it cools down, then place them into the fridge. After 2 to 3 hours, your home made cold beancurd is ready to be served.

Finally!!!... After failing for more than 100 times... I finally discover the method to make the famous Lao Ban Dou Hua.

Half-A-Day Workout @ Pulau Ubin

Since I'm going to post photos that I took, I take this chance to also write a short write up on how to go to Pulau Ubin and what you can do there.

Pulau Ubin is a offshore island of Singapore. It only takes 30 minutes to bring you away from the busy city to a peaceful kampong life. You can board the ferry at Changi Ferry Terminal (Nearby is Changi Village).

Once you reach Ubin, you can choose to be adventurous by walking around Ubin or rent a bicycle. I would advise to avoid renting bicycle from the first bicycle store along the way, because somehow this shop has the HIGHEST rental price. Walk in further, you will see cheaper and better bicycle.

Along the way, you will see shops selling drinks which is rather expensive. Each can, if i remembered clearly, is approximately S$1.50. It will be better off bring own water bottle.

The ferry charges is S$2.50/pax/way, which adds up to S$5.00/trip. The ferry only set out when it is full (12pax). But don't worry, the flow of passenger is never ending.

2nd Visit to Genting Highland

Simply addicted to Genting Highland, however it's not the casino. It is the weather that I am addicted to.

Although there is nothing much to do at Genting, the weather alone can make me stay there. If you reside in a tropical area like Singapore or Malaysia, you will LOVE the weather at Genting.

Travel by coach to Genting is really a PAIN IN THE ASS! 7 Hours of PAIN and TORTURE!

Although the travel time is a PAIN, but eventually I forgot all the PAIN, and started enjoying the weather! Only 1 word can describe the weather, which is "SUPERB"!

I shall stop here and share with everyone some photos of my 2nd visit to Genting Highland.

HTC vs APPLE - The Counter SUE!

HTC = Hi Tech Computer Corp, the largest Smartphone manufacturer in Taiwan Tapei.

What comes around, goes around. First APPLE filed a lawsuit against HTC, now it's time HTC counter attack.

APPLE filed a lawsuit again HTC for making products base on APPLE (iPhone) user interface, hardware and architecture.

After some days, HTC finally reacted to the lawsuit filed by APPLE. After some days, HTC fired back on Wednesday, asking to ban sales of iPhones, iPads and iPods in the United States.

In a complaint filed with the ITC, HTC accuse APPLE of infringing five of its patents related to cellphone directory hardware and software and power-management technology in portable devices.

I hope at the end of the battle, HTC will emerge the winner and APPLE shall be the LOSER.

Day 1 - Raining Day! (SGD to RM rates @ 2.38)
Our flight is from 1300hrs, so we reached KLIA (LCCT) at around 1415hrs. The budget terminal was REALLY budget.

We then took a cab from LCCT to Berjaya Times Square (Asia's Largest Amusement Park in Shopping Mall). The journey took us a good 1hr 30mins, so by the time we reached KL (Time Sqaures) it's around 1600hrs.

We checked in to a hotel (Orkid Hotel, near to Times Sqaure). The hotel rate is 108RM (S$45) per night. Well, it is somehow still reasonable given that Times Square rate is far more steeper.

Should we consider lucky ? Once we checked in to the hotel, it started raining cats and dogs with thunderstorm. Or should we consider unlucky ? Because we intend to hunt for some nice food around our hotel area, but the rain stopped us from doing so. So we waited for the rain to stop, then took some photos in the hotel room.

We went to Vivo @ Times Square for our dinner after the rain had stopped. The food was "WOW" and also at an acceptable price. 4 of us spent a total of 103RM for a sumptuous meal. After movie, we went to catch a movie at only 10RM per ticket.

We end our day after the movie, because it is already 11pm. On our way back to hotel, we patronized this small shop selling Teochew Porridge. It is the best Teochew porridge I've ever ate and only spent 8.50RM (2 Person).

The best deal in town. 8.50RM for Tau Gua, Peanuts, Tau Pok and braised egg.

5.9 Million Chinese New Year TOTO Draw

Today is the day! Will I become a millionaire all depends on these 2 draws. I would like to request everyone reading my blog to lend me some of your luck.

The first big ang pao by Singapore Pools. It is separated into 2 draws, 5 million and 10 million respectively. Today is the 5 million Toto draw, on the 26th Feb 2010 is the 10 million Toto draw.

If I strike either 1 of the Big Ang Pao, I will use these money to:

The actual cause of FIRE in Dover ITE Staff Room

You should have heard the news by now, Dover ITE staff room on fire.

It is said that the cause of fire is that electrical appliances have been left overnight unattended. This might be a possible cause of the fire, as we know leaving appliances overnight might cause the appliances to be overheated and therefore started a fire.

However there is other saying that ITE Dover staff room is haunted. There are rumors spreading around the campus, that the "ghost" or whatever it is called, started the fire. At first, I don't believe it, as it is too abrupt. While I am flipping the newspaper, I noticed a very strange figure just below the staff room. Not only that, there is another figure just at the left side of the fire which resembles the figure below the staff room.

Below is a picture that I scan from the newspaper. I did not do any editing on it, except for the circle I draw and the text.

Real or fake ? Up to you to decide =) There is always a saying "It is better to believe than to deny it".

I'm so proud of the result

After all the effort of going to the library (Reserving and queuing for the book), it pays off! I am so happy and proud of my Forex trading result.

I spent around 6 months reading and experimenting different technical analysis, and finally found 1 or rather some that suit my trading habit.

So I am going to show off to everyone now! Hope I will continue to see such good result!

By the way I am trading with FxOpen. For your info, they have a very low spread for major pairs.

Chinese New Year or Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day falls on the actual day of Chinese New Year, it might be good for some or bad for the others.

So I would like to open this question to everyone. Are you celebrating Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day or both ?

My answers to the above question is, I will celebrate Chinese New Year.

WHY ? I shall write 2 main reason to support my answers

1) Red Packets (Hong Bao) = $$ Money Money $$ =)
2) Meeting up with relatives (Especially overseas relatives)

But of cause, it is not totally because of Red Packets that I am looking forward to. As I have little relatives, I think the money cannot even reach $100. So I am definitely not after money, it is the relatives bonding that is more important.

I sincerely believe that everyday is valentine's day if we treat our partners wholeheartedly. I am not trying to portray the idea of not celebrating.

Even though the celebration is not on Valentine's day, so long there meaning and sincerity, to me is more than enough. I do not like to celebrate something for the sake for celebrating.

Samsung Omnia 2 GT-I8000

At last I can re-contract my mobile line to get a new mobile phone. After considering a number of mobile phones, I decided get the Samsung Omnia 2 GT-I8000. Installed with Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional and TouchWiz UI, I am filled with excitement to open up this wonderful phone.

There is too much about this phone that I can write, therefore I will write about the main thing I like about this phone. And that is the 3.7" AMOLED touch display!

I love the screen size of this phone, a 3.7" with AMOLED Display technology for a super clear viewing experience. Best of all, the AMOLED Display consume little batter power. Which is now I enjoy the best of both world; that is big clear display that don't drain battery power!

If you like to SMS, surf the web or even play game, the large and clear LCD display will never disappoint you.

I am going to use my Omnia 2 to make the very *FIRST* post! However, the image have been edited with Photoshop CS4 before posting.

This is my Samsung Omnia 2, and I gonna love it with MY LIFE!

Oh well, I did not update my blog for quite sometime till now. Today went to support my brother girlfriend fencing competition at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

It's an open fencing competition organized by Ngee Ann Polytechnic on 06 December 2009. Category of competition includes Epee, Sabre and Foil fencing.

I will be sharing some of the photos taken during the competition. I forgot my flash unit, so i got to push my ISO a little higher to archive the shutter speed to capture the fast motion.

1 Night Visit To Genting Highland

This is a superb experience! This is a lengthy post, don't mind ok? Haha

Driving from Singapore to Genting was exciting and fun but extremely tedious and tiring.

We meet at 4.30pm, and since we do not have Ringgit with us we drive to Boonlay to change some Ringgit. Then only realise our cash card does not have enough balance for the Toll in Singapore Custom. So drive to the nearest POSB ATM machine to top-up cash card. I not sure whether it is unlucky, the ATM machine broke down. So we drive to the next nearest machine, this time the ATM is operating but extremely long queue. But no choice, have to queue to top-up the cash card.

After topping up the cash card, I drive to the nearest petrol station to have my Wind screen wiper changed.

So we meet at 4.30pm but only after 5.30pm, we are then prepared for our trip.

We go in a group of 3's and each person fork out around 80RM. This is the car fund which is for the Toll, petrol and snacks during the trip.

The weather was all fine at first, then all of a sudden heavy rain set in. Luckily I have my wiper changed.

After driving for 1hr or so, we stopped at Yong Peng for toliet break, dinner and to pump petrol. A warning to whoever planning to drive to Genting. Do not stop at Yong Peng, the food simply sucks and expensive. Just Around 70km down the highway, there is a shopping center with A&W, Macdonald and other fast food restaurant.

Finally after a good 2 and half hours, we reached KL. And this is where problem arise. We lost our way!! From Singapore to KL is common sense, however from KL to Genting was no common sense anymore. There is no road sign directing you to Genting.

So I turn on my GPS device, follow the directions, but it seems to bring me to the wrong place. Finally we stop at the road side, and ask a cabby driver. Dumb GPS device isn't it ?

Driving up the mountain, was fun! I was so afraid that my car don't have enough power to travel up to the top of the mountain. But all worries is over, it made it, all the way up to the top! It's 12.45am and the temperature there is 13 degree Celsius. It is freaking cold... and the worst thing is I forgot to bring along my jacket. *Freezing*

The hotel in Genting was fully booked, even those low class hotel. So we planned to rest in the car instead.

The first place we visit upon reaching Genting is the Casino. The only place in Genting that is warm. We spent around 4 hours in the Casino. Well, I only win 20RM. Better than losing right ?

Around 5.30am, we go back to the car to catch some rest. At first we thought that it would be quite warm, so we open the car window. Then after awhile, we are like trembling in the car, so we close down the window, leaving little gap so that we can breathe. But it is still freezing cold, no choice got to endure. Managed to sleep till about 7am, then drive down the mountain for breakfast in KL.

Anyway we reach JB at around 2pm, so we went for some shopping and lunch at JB, then finally make our way back to Singapore. Finally home sweet home at around 6pm! Yay!!

New Lens Test Shots

Just got myself a new Canon EF Lens, the 50mm f1.4 USM. The look and feel, compared to the 50mm f1.8, which is far superior. I highly recommend the 50mm f1.4 USM over the 50mm f1.8 if you do not own a 50mm lens currently. For those who are considering to get the f1.4 or f1.8, my advise is go for a better lens instead of buying a lower quality lens then sell and upgrade again.

You will not regret owning the 50mm f1.4 USM!!

- 50mm f1.8 feels so plastic, to the extend that is, practically disposable.
- The focusing ring on the 50mm f1.8 can be considered useless. Seldom you will switch to MF to use the focusing ring. However the 50mm f1.4 is a FTM (Full Time Manual) focusing ring, and the ring have a better grip.

I am so excited over my new lens. Can't wait to shoot and share, although I have not bring this lens out for some real stuff, let me show some of the random shots I have taken with this lens. They are really very random, hope you guys don't mind. :)

After pumping petrol at JB, head down to Bugis Street. My girlfriend and I already planned to take photographs at Bugis Street, but every time due to some unexpected situation, the plan always got postponed.

After having this plan postponed for a few weeks, finally we make our way here to take photographs. I'm not very good with street photos, nevertheless I will still share my street photo experience.

I am a person that respects others' privacy, so taking street photographs is a extreme challenge for me. I don't know is it only me, but regardless of where I go I'm always being stopped by either security guards or events officials telling me "NO PHOTOGRAPHS HERE!"... So demoralizing.......

Let me share some of my humble street photos, do comment on the photos if you have any views, be it you like it or you hate it... Just let me know, so I can improve on my shots.

I Love Windows 7 Ultimate

Omg!! Windows 7...

With only 1.5GB of RAM installed on my netbook, I'm able to get Windows 7 running, and even with Windows Aero enabled.

I just brought Windows 7 Operating System, and finally got it installed on my HP Mini. Right now still meddling with the features and functionality. However I discovered a very cool feature, that is you can shake off all other windows and leaving only the windows you are working on.

I really mean SHAKE... All you need to do is to use your mouse, click and hold on to the top of the windows and SHAKE... SHAKE... SHAKEEE.... you will shake away those windows you are not currently using.

Windows 7 do feature Ready Boost like Windows Vista.. I find this feature really useful for system like netbook.

I shall continue to play around with my new Windows 7 and update you guys and ladies, the cool features windows 7 is providing :)

Till now, Windows 7 Rocks, I'm Luving it and will continue loving it!!

International Wine Importer Exhibition

I'm back with some photos that I took at the International Wine Importer Exhibition at Suntec City.

Wine Importers from all over the world showcase their award winning Wine at this exhibition. Professionals presenters from countries like United States came to this exhibition to demonstrates and explain how Wine came about and how traders invest in them.

Personally for me I do not really know how to appreciate Wine, so for me Wine is just Wine. So you asked, "Why AM I there ?" The reason I am there was to take photographs :)

Singapore Dragon Kiln

You will never be able to find this anywhere in Singapore anymore, it's the one and only left!!. It's the Dragon Kiln, 龙窑 in Chinese. The temperature can go up to 3000 Degree Celsius and usually it's used for making pottery.

Due to the high temperature inside the Dragon Kiln tunnel, if you go near to it, within a few minutes you will start to perspire. You can really feel the heat emitting out.

As the process usually takes more than 5 days, from starting the coal inside the tunnel to placing the clay into the tunnel and finally the heating process, prior to using the Dragon Kiln they will offer prayers to pray for that nothing will happen during this whole process.

As before, I am sharing my experience with everyone. Hope you will like it.

A cool experience and eye opener for me though :)

It is said that during the process, should the door crack or the door spoil, the whole process will fail and will have to restart the whole process again. Which means all the clay inside the tunnel will have to be thrown out and remould the pottery.

Hit my car and don't dare to admit. I did not accuse him! you can see the exactly the same stretch on his car. He still got the fking guts to say it is hit by others. Say I got no prove to say its him.

Got to buy touch up paint now to touch up on that patch. Not sure whether that patch can be covered up....

Just brought a 1TB (1TB = 1000GB) SATA2 Hard disk. As my collections of photos is getting larger day by day, and the facts that I am shooting in RAW format, I think it is necessary to make this purchase.

As I was browsing through my collections, I was shocked with the photos taken by me when I just brought my first DSLR. The photos look so plain and flat, looks like snapshots. Have to thank my girlfriend for teaching me how to see things differently.

Let me share with you my now and then collections.

While I am changing into my comfortable clothes, I turn to my window and saw sky is in wonderful color. Quickly, I pull up my pants and took out the camera from my dry cabinet and capture this wonderful moment of the sky.

Simply love the new Tamron 17-50 lens. Another photo of the sky around my place. Instead of posting a new post, I might as well add on to here since the title is the same.

A trip to Chinese-Japanese Garden

Photographers will know this place well. Especially photographers who take weddings photos, Chinese-Japanese Garden is the best place to shoot weddings photos.

Situated in the West of Singapore, Chinese Garden MRT Station. Initially when the place first built, you have to pay entrance fee to enter the garden. After a revamp in 2006, it is decided that it will not be collecting entrance fee. It is free entrance now.

The Garden theme is built based on the old China history with statue of the Confucius, Wen Tian Xiang （文天祥） and many more. The structure was built with the feel of the China Palace.

If you have not visited Chinese Garden (I am also visiting it for the first time), it could be a nice place to gain some knowledge on China History.

As usual I am posting some photos I have taken during my trip to Chinese Garden which i find them nice.

What happen to Ping.sg ?

The Million Dollar Question:

"Something wrong with Ping.sg ? Is it down ?"

Ping.sg web server is not down, but the Ajax script might be the main cause. That's the reason why Ping.sg does not automatically update your blog.

It seems that no one is there to rectify this issue and it have been left at this state for more than 24 hours. Hope that Uzyn is fine and will be rectifying this issue as soon as possible.

A visit to Singapore Zoo

Singapore Zoo is located at Mandai Road, which is in the North of Singapore. The one and only Zoo in Singapore. Although the entrance fee is a little steep, but it's worth the money. If you have not been to Zoo or have not visit the zoo for more than a decade ago since your last visit, gather up with your friends or families to visit the zoo. You will not regret your decision.

It have been more than 10 years since my last visit to the Zoo. The reason why I visit the zoo again is because I have the corporate pass from my organization. Best of all, I can enjoy 10% discount of all expenses inside the zoo.

I arrived the Zoo at 9am, I am having thoughts that no one will go there early. But I am so surprise that the entrance was already packed with visitors.

At the white tiger zone, I was photographing beside another canon DSLR user. Arthur was his name, we were discussing about canon equipment and he offer to let me place with his Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM lens. I was so amaze with the lens performance. One 1 word to describe canon L Series Lens. SUPERB!

My goal till the end of 2009, is to raise fund to purchase a Canon L Series LENS!

The zoo have changed so much, 10 years ago ah meng is still alive and active having breakfast with visitors. Now, I visited ah meng but not at his usual performing area but at Ah Meng memorial hall.

As the usual practice, I will be uploading photos I had taken during my trip to the Zoo. There is some shots that was taken with the Canon L Lens.

Time flies, 2 years have past since the last AOH'07.

I still remember AOH'07, I was still in NS, to make this worst, I AM DOING DUTY AT AOH'07!!!

This year I am going to walk into AOH'09 as a true CIVILIAN!! NO MORE doing duty at the event. I am going with my family members, let them have an idea of the present technologies compared to the good old days.

The proposal : Here comes the bride

Today went to watch "The Proposal" at Jurong Point Golden Village.

On the scale of 10, i would rate this movie an average of 6.5

It does let you have a good laugh, the funny scene is really funny. The story line, I felt that it's too simple and not much of content through the whole movie. Over here I give a rating of 4.5

The movie don't end well, it end with both of them being investigated without telling us the result whether they pass the test. Over here I give a rating of 2.5

Overall, I would still recommend "The Proposal" to whoever that want to have good laugh and relax yourself after a stressful day.

Here comes my Canon EOS 40D

After days of consideration between a semi-pro and pro cam, finally i make a decision to buy 40D.

Initially I was attracted by the large imager size of 1dmk1 (1.3x FOV), but soon the idea was dropped after looking at reviews on the internet.

So the next in line, will be the EOS 40d. Though the imager size is smaller than 1dmk1, overall the camera was equipped with more functions like higher ISO settings and better processor (DIGIC 3) and higher megapixel (don't really applies to me as I don't print photos often).

After using EOS 40D for awhile, the feel of the camera is just like 1dmk1. "Very solid and stable". With the battery Grip inserted.

Unbelievable noise control for 40D, even up to the highest ISO3200, the image is still sharp with little noise. If you like shooting in low light, indoor, events or even graduations then EOS 40D is definitely the camera you are looking for.

Simply love Canon EOS 40D to the MAX!

Freeze It - The water droplet

I am trying my extension tube on a 55-250mm lens.

There is 1 post in my blog that I used close up filters to capture water droplet. I would prefer using extension tube as the image is sharper compared to using close up filters.

The working distance with a 55-250mm is quite reasonable. You don't need to be real close to the subject to take the photo.

Vintage Car Night @ Marina South Pier

Take a look at Singapore Vintage Car.. The event was held at Marina South Pier. Owners of vintage cars can drive their vehicle to show off to everyone.

Let me give a brief explanation to vintage car.

Q. So I will start off with, What is Vintage Car?
Ans: Vintage car is any motorcar whose life/age is more than 35 of years. You must register with LTA to get your car approved as vintage car.

Q. Any limitation to Vintage Car?
Ans: The restriction to Vintage Car registered as Classic Car is that, it can only ply the road 28 days in a year. You will be issued with a supplementary license (which looks ALMOST like the off peak car coupon). For Vintage Car registered under Classic Car Scheme, whenever you drive on the road, you MUST use the coupon including Public Holiday and Sunday.

Ginger or Ginger dog ?

While my Dad is cooking dinner for us this evening, he see a ginger that looks like a dog. At first, I thought that he purposely cut into a dog shape, but then a closer look there is no knife cut on the ginger.

Singapore Botanic Garden

Damn!! I was so annoyed, frustrated, and furious with my GPS. This damn GPS keeps showing me the wrong direction again, again..... and again!

I was like a idiot being tricked by the GPS. I went round and round and drove back all the way to AYE but still I did not managed to reach the intended place.

In the end, I saw a road sign point towards Singapore Botanic Garden so happily drive towards that direction. ANGERED at the monent!!! The junction shows a NO LEFT TURN SIGN! I left with no choice, but to drive against traffic flow.

and.....
Finally i reached Singapore Botanic Garden. Phew!

It is my first gathering with the GSCCPS (Geylang Serai Community Club Photographic Society). All of them went into the Orchid Garden, which on that day the admission is free for all student, I did not went in because I will have to pay S$5.00 for admission (Bo Hua).

While waiting for them, I was looking for nice subject to shoot in the Ginger Garden. Nothing much to shoot at ginger garden. But there is a nice articial waterfall at the entrance of Ginger Garden. Around half an hour later, the sky turns grey.

So only managed to shoot a few photos for this trip to Singapore Botanic Garden. Nevertheless, if my planned shoot was affected by bad weather I will definetly make a second trip to the same place again.

World of Macro: The Beetle

BEETLE!!!

It has been long since i last blogged with new photos. Today just brought an extension tube for macro photography. I have a close up filter, but I don't like to use it as the image quality with a close up filter attached to the lens SUCKS.

The extension tube is a hollow tube that increase the distance the lens from the camera sensor. Therefore with the extension tube, photographer can position nearer to the subject.

I was experimenting with the extension tube, then a beetle fly into my room. So lucky, I got a REAL subject to experiment on. Below is the image of my work with the extension tube and Canon 50mm f1.8 lens.

The ZOOM effect ..

Photos taken with the 55-250mm IS lens from Canon. How to achieve this zooming effect ?

You can achieve this effect by setting your shutter to a slower speed (eg, 1/3s, 1/5s). Then as you press on your shutter fully, while the shutter is still open zoom your lens either in or out to achieve this effect. You may need to try a few shots

Take out your zoom lens now and try this special effect, you will be amazed with the effect. Try to focus on areas where there is sufficient light, so that the light trail effect can be seen clearly.

These hamsters are so cute

They are so cute!... Looks like he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. These hamsters were found at Taman Jurong, where a bowling center can be found there. This pet store is just beside the bowling center. While I am walking towards the MacDonald, this particular hamster (the one standing out) was looking at me. So took a picture of this hamster.

It's so cute....

After my taking a photo of this hamster with flash, it hides itself away. Maybe they are afraid of the flashes from the camera.

Fun @ Pulau Ubin

A short introduction to this Island (Pulau Ubin). This Island is known to be the last kampung (village) in Singapore. Take a stroll down this Island, have a feel of how simple life can be in the 60's. Little have been done to this Island, so as to maintain the simple and relaxing life of a kampung.

Do constantly remind yourself to keep the place clean and tidy, after all we are the user of the nature and we do not want it to be destroyed.

Ok Now, Welcome to Pulau Ubin!

Reached there around 8am, the morning air in Pulau Ubin is wonderful; feel the freshness of the air as you breathe in. Did some warm-up shots as we arrived at the pier.

Then we paid 12 bucks to rent a bicycle, and then cycled to Chek Jawa. From the jetty to Chek Jawa, travelled by bicycle, the journey is around a 30 minutes ride. Given that time, I did stop by a lot of places to take photos.

A short introduction to this place; Chek Jawa is among the last few places with natural rocky shore. In order to maintain the survival of Chek Jawa, there is a limitation to the number of people who can be at the place at the same time.

(Below) Taken this photo while on the way back to the jetty. This is a quarry but i forgetten what is the name of this quarry. It is located near Chek Jawa, on your way back to Jetty from Chek Jawa you will definitely cycle past this quarry. Very spectacular view of this quarry.

Around 1pm in the afternoon, the scorching sun is too hot for us to explore to the west part of Pulau Ubin. We decided to take the craft back to Changi Jetty, and plan for a next trip to explore the unexplored.

Singapore Polytechnic Outing

This outing is proudly organized by Singapore Polytechnic for all academic and non-academic staff. The first campus wide event that I attended with my department (Continuing Education and Training).

The private bus ferry us to Southern Ridges, a park owned and managed by N-Park.

The Southern Ridges comprise a 9-kilometre chain of green, open spaces spanning the rolling hills of Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park and Kent Ridge Park before ending at West Coast Park.

Southern Ridges is linked with the two prominent connections - Henderson Waves and Alexandra Arch, stand proudly along the Ridges today.

Below is some photos I've taken while strolling from Southern Ridges, then Henderson Wave and finally end at Mount Faber Park.

I am using a closeup filters +8 with my 75-300 USM lens with flash turned on and attached with a DIY flash diffuser. To archive a handholdable shutter speed, flash MUST be turned on at low lightning condition.

Weekend trip to Batam Center

A very sudden trip to Batam Center with my friend. Both of us were chatting on MSN, we were so bored tt it was a long wkend n we got nowhere to go, therefore we suggested alot of places but all was kinda bored n then Batam suddenly came into my mind so i suggested to my friend, he agreed as well!

Then started calling all our friends to ask whether they want to join, but no one pickup our calls! Maybe it is still early. Nevertheless my friend and I still decided to go on our own.

As it was a Public Holiday for Singapore on Friday, all schedule for the fast craft is fully booked, we only managed to book 2 tickets at 1650hrs.

The travel time from Harbour Front to Batam Center was about 1hr 30 mins. We reach there at about 1800hrs, and started our 1 day 1 night trip @ Batam.

Check in at Golden Mutiara Hotel, the price of the hotel is very affordable. 1 night stay at the hotel at only 215,500 (Equivalent to SGD30). Don't expect to find facilities like gym or tennis court in this hotel. You get what you paid for.

While waiting for our return ferry, went over to a shopping mall just opposite Batam Center. Look at the poor condition of their road.But they drive with patient unlike Singapore! All rush as if infront have million dollars.

A trip with STAR Virgo

This was the best photo taken among all, i simply love this photo.

3 days 2 nights tour on cruise is a very fruitful journey for my photo taking experience, i was able to take beautiful scenery of the mother nature; the sea and sky with no ends. But its a pity that i did not bring my DSLR along due to some reason. Photos were took with PnS camera which the effect did not turn out as good.
Shall share some of the photos taken.

I would say this trip is definitely worth it because i can take 2 days off to stay free from the hectic lifestyle here and slow down my pace to enjoy the photo shooting process and to capture every beautiful moments and scenery in the middle of the sea.

Lastly, i would definitely bring my DSLR along next time.

@ sales of pork goes down due to wrong term

As announced today, swine flu is now named as Mexican swine flu.

The term swine flu is creating fear in people, the sales margin of pork goes down so much that the world health organization have to change the term from swine flu to Mexican Swine Flu in hope to increase the sales margin of pork.

Let's hope that this epidemic will end soon!

How many of seen rainbow in the open sea ?

Sharing one of the photo that I've taken at Marina South Pier then post processed with Adobe PhotoShop CS4 Extended.

If you would like to know how you can create nice rainbow effect using Adobe PhotoShop you can visit this site.

While this photo is taken with canon EF-S 75-300mm lens, at 130mm the image quality will not be excellent. Nevertheless, I think that with the rainbow effect added to the photo it bring out a warm feeling.

Digital Photo Professional, EOS Utility, Picture Style Editor and several other Canon digital SLR applications for Mac and Windows have been updated. Changes include support for the Rebel T1i/500D in several programs and the addition of Highlight and Shadow adjustment sliders in Digital Photo Professional.

Self-Reflection & Conclusion
After trying out to shoot water droplet falling and freeze it in the air, I came to a conclusion; that it is not easy to estimate the time from the water droplet falls and then a click at my remote shutter. This particular photo is being filtered from the 50 shots that I've took.

A reflection of a compact disc with the help of a table lamp to bring out the nice rainbow effect. It's also one of my favorite shots taken so far.

Reflections and learning curves
A shot like the above is quite easy. All you need is to take at different angles to then filter out those that don't look great. I don't recommend using a tripod when taking shots that need to test out the angles.
If your hand is not stable enough to hold the camera, then get a chair or table to support.

The new Marina South Pier is beautiful, too bad I missed the night scene as I need to rush back home.
